FOOT LOCKER, INC. DONATES 82,500 PAIRS OF ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR TO SAVE THE CHILDREN

 

 

NEW YORK, NY, April 21, 2005 – Foot Locker, Inc. (NYSE: FL), the New York-based specialty athletic retailer, announced today that it has donated a total of 82,500 pairs of athletic footwear to Save the Children, a leading independent organization creating real and lasting change for children in need in the United States and around the world. 

 

Foot Locker, Inc. is providing 68,500 pairs of athletic footwear to the Save the Children relief effort in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.  The product was shipped via P&O Nedlloyd, who donated the ocean transportation in support of this worthy cause. 

 

“We were clearly shocked and saddened by the tsunami disaster that has severely impacted so many people, particularly in the coastal areas of the Indian Ocean,” stated Matthew D. Serra, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Foot Locker, Inc.  “Our Company recognizes its ongoing sense of responsibility of providing assistance, as needed, in the communities where we operate around the world.  I am pleased that Rick Mina, President and Chief Executive Officer of Foot Locker, Inc. – U.S.A., and his team were able to arrange this partnership with Save the Children and P&O Nedlloyd to assist with these relief efforts.”

In addition, Foot Locker, Inc. also donated 14,000 pairs of athletic footwear to needy children who participate in Save the Children’s US Programs.  The program serves the neediest children in 13 states in rural America with literacy & physical health and nutrition programming.
